THe 3 pt hitch on my 4600, with 470 hrs does not hold. With the 850lb. cutter attached it will drop about 1 to 2 inches at the tail wheel then lift back up, all occuring in about 1 minute. Does anyone have any ideas of the cause and the fix?

My 4310 used to do that. Being it was still under warranty the Deere service person cane out and made an adjustment that fixed the problem. As I remember it the adjustment was somewhere in the link between the lever and the valve and wasn't too big a deal. Perhaps someone on the board knows for sure what to adjust or your Deere dealer can tell you. Best of luck. Frank. ....

The fact you mentioned it lifts back up suggests a problem in the draft control. Is the linkage adjustable?

I have a 4700 I bought new in 2000 and have had this problem. Every year since I've had it, I've had it in too have work done on the 3pt, all under warranty ( it's in there as we type). Finally, today the service manager says they have found and fixed the problem. The 3pt piston had a score and they replaced it, problem solved. We'll see, and why couldn't they find this the other four times??

There is only one lever that controls the rockshaft and it does not appear to be adjustable. I didn't have the draft control option installed on this machine.

Wish I had an extended warrantee! ....

There are others who know this much better than me and they have not asked so I am probably way off base but: have your check your oil level? have you tried changing the oil? have no idea of the filter(s) on this tractor but have you cleaned or replaced them depending on which type they are? ....

The hydraulic fluid level is at the full mark on the dipstick. I am at 470 hrs. so it is about due for a fluid and filter change. 500 hour intervals sounds like a long period but I guess since it is a geared shuttle shift transmission the fluid lasts longer than it would in a hydrostat. Although the manual doesn't say to do so I changed the fluid and filter and cleaned the screen at the first 50 hours.

I just learned that JD was aware of this problem and had some sort of campaign to correct it. I must have missed it. Depending on what I find caused this I may change JD's 500hr trans service interval to 250 hrs. ....

I did a bit of research at the local Deere dealer and found that the rockshaft control valve is most likely the problem. They have replaced several of them at $470.40 plus labor. Get access from above, under the seat. Another reason to not like Mondays. ....

I am not sure you have the same problem I did because you state your 3pt comes back up after dropping but heres what I found. My 4310 was dropping and not staying up. I did a search on this site and found a drawing showing the 3pt control lever set up. You have to remove the right rear wheel, remove the fender, remove a cover plate and there is one bolt that holds tension on the lever. It was just an adjustment for me. maybe someone else can search and find the drawing? again, since yours is coming back up, this might not be the case for you.
good luck, be safe ....
